How Family Face Match reaches a result

Scope and inputs

The user adds one to three photos of a child and up to three photos for each of two to ten relatives. Resemblee evaluates only the people and photos included in that request. Each usable crop must contain one detectable face.

Face preparation

The service detects and aligns each face, then ArcFace creates a numerical face representation for each usable photo. The representation is normalized. When a person has multiple usable photos, they are combined into a quality-weighted template for that request.

Ranking and display score

Cosine similarity compares the child’s template with each relative’s template and determines the order. “Closest match” means the highest visual similarity among the relatives uploaded in that request. The raw comparison is transformed into a bounded 0–100 entertainment display score. When an approved calibration artifact is configured, that transformation can follow consented human resemblance ratings; otherwise the configured mapping is identified as experimental.

Score, confidence, and feature details

The similarity score describes the visual comparison. Result confidence separately summarizes photo suitability, consistency across usable photo pairs, and the lead over the next-ranked relative. Optional eye-spacing, nose-position, mouth-proportion, and face-shape details come from detector landmarks and face-box geometry; they do not explain ArcFace decisions or describe genetics, identity, or inherited traits.

Why results can change

Age, expression, pose, lighting, camera quality, blur, occlusion, crop, and the particular photos selected can affect a result. Detector, model, calibration, or scoring updates can also change future results. Clear photos with similar angles usually support a more consistent comparison, but no photograph guarantees a particular score.

Evidence and limits

The score is not a probability, DNA percentage, identity confidence, or scientific accuracy measure. Resemblee makes no claim that results are equally reliable for every age or demographic group, and visual similarity cannot establish a biological relationship. Do not use a result for medical, legal, employment, financial, safety, identity, or family-status decisions.

The references below describe the face-model families used by the current workflow. They do not validate Resemblee’s entertainment score or support kinship inference.

Future Look is separate

When enabled, Future Look does not use the family-ranking method above. After photo-use confirmation and separate processor consent, the configured image processor uses one photo, a selected timeframe, and a fixed style to create one imaginative portrait. Outputs can vary and are not predictions or scientific age-progression analyses.
